Beginner Moves

Move 1 = Step Across       Move 2 = Yoyo       Move 3 = Ladyspin

Intermediate Moves

Move 1 = Sway Change Hands = Beats 1 & 2 as per a normal Sway. Men Sway your lady backwards as normal but as you do so take your left hand across in front of your lady, and take hold of her right hand (Men you should now have both your arms round your lady’s waist). Men Sway your lady forwards twisting to her left as normal – albeit with both your arms still round her waist. Men let go with your right hand as you raise your left hand to return your lady nearly 1 and half times in an anti-clockwise direction in front of you. When the lady comes round to face, men do not step back – instead keep your left hand raised and perform a Step Across underneath. Men continue to swap sides as you would in a Step Across & face. Return. Step back to face.

Move 2 = Wurlitzer Left Handed Pushspin = Beats 1, 2 & 3 as per a normal Wurlitzer. Men keep hold with your right hand as you raise it over the lady’s head to turn her in an anti-clockwise direction. When the ladies come round to face, men take your right hand out to the right at waist level, at the same time offer your left hand as a flat palm by your chest. Men with your right hand throw the lady’s left hand onto your flattened left palm, so that you are palm to palm – left to left. Men push down and to the right with your left hand, letting go to spin the ladies in an anti-clockwise direction. Catch man’s left to lady’s right and both step back.

Move 3 = Neckbreak Shoulder Block Spin = Step back man’s left to lady’s right – men signalling with your right arm in an ‘L’ shape at shoulder height. Both step in so that your partner is on your right hand side, men taking your left hand up near your left shoulder while you take your right hand over the lady’s left shoulder with your palm facing the floor so that you can see your fingertips as you look behind the lady’s head – your right hand/arm should not be in contact with the ladies at this point. Men stay on the spot as you take your left hand around in front of your lady to make her turn half a turn to her right to face the same way as you, and place your hands on your lady’s shoulders – left on her left, right on her right. Men push with your right hand to gently twist your lady slightly to her left into your body. Men push and let go with your left hand, as you pull with your right hand to make your lady turn ½ turn to her right – blocking her from turning any further as you’ve kept your right hand on your lady’s right shoulder. Men pull & let go with your right hand to spin your lady anti-clockwise. Step back catching man’s left to lady’s right.

Move 4 = Yoyo Counter Lean = Step back right to right. Step in like a normal Yoyo, men taking your right hand across your chest and up near your left shoulder, but change your grip here so yours & your lady’s right thumbs are interlocked like an arm wrestlers grip, with your fingers wrapped round the back of your partners hand. Keeping this grip, men take a small step behind your lady with your right foot, as you extend your right hand out to the right to make your lady pivot half a turn clockwise like a normal Yoyo. Men put your weight over your right foot and pivot ¾ turn clockwise, as you pull with your right hand at chest height to make your lady pivot a ¼ turn anti-clockwise & as you both face the same way – men deftly slide your left foot alongside & up against your lady’s right foot & place your left hand (thumb to the floor) on the lady’s right hip – you should both be side by side facing the same way, with the lady to the man’s left, right hand to right hand still with the arm wrestlers grip & the outside of the man’s left foot alongside & up against the outside of the lady’s right foot. Next – the lean – Men leave your left foot where it is as you side step to the right with your right foot, leaning to your right (counterbalancing your lady), as you gently push and let go with your left hand on the lady’s hip, whilst extending your right hand across towards your lady – Ladies – You can either keep your right foot where it is & mirror your man by side stepping to the left with your left foot (supporting yourself as you lean to the left), or ladies keep their feet together, keep a strong core and try and keep your body straight from head to toe and lean to the left only supported by the man – which ever lean the lady chooses, it takes two beats to slowly and in a controlled way lean away. Then men pull with your right hand to both stand up vertical again, men take your left foot away from your lady’s foot & out of her way as you bring your right hand up into a Yoyo type ‘L’ shape as the man begins to step to the left behind the lady to begin to swap sides. Men continue to swap sides as you push and raise your right hand to turn your lady clockwise. Face. Return. Step back.

Men stay on the spot as you take your left hand down towards the lady’s hip & across in front of her at waist level to make her twist out to the side like a First Move Lady’s step back on your right) – and as the lady now faces the same way, men with your right hand tap your lady on her right shoulder – ladies take hold with your left hand. Men push with your right arm to twist your lady forwards slightly to her left (a shallow twist). Men keep hold with both hands as you step forwards pivoting ½ turn clockwise – pushing with your left hand and pulling with your right hand to make your lady step forwards like you pivoting clockwise – you should end up both facing the same way, with the lady to the man’s left. Men side step behind your lady as you raise your right hand to turn your lady anti-clockwise. As the lady comes round to face, men lower & keep hold with your right hand, as you raise your left hand & men pivot ¾ turn anticlockwise underneath your left hand. Men once you have finished turning to your left, your lady should be to your left, as you sweep your left hand down in between you, then out in front of your lady, before raising your left hand over your lady’s head. Like a Pretzel now, both side step to your left behind each other, passing back to back, men lowering your left hand to waist level as you raise your right hand over the lady’s head. Men raise your left hand up and out to your left as you guide your partner across in front of you with your right hand, beginning to turn her clockwise out to your left hand side. Turn the ladies another turn clockwise as you both travel forwards. When the ladies have completed the second turn, men pivot ¼ turn to your left and pull your partner in so that you are facing each other in a ballroom dance style of hold. Men pivot the ladies out to the right as per beat 3 but you should now both be facing the opposite direction ready to repeat yourself going back the opposite way. Men bring your left hand back to your left shoulder as per beat 4. This move now finishes in exactly the same way as a normal First Move - Men twist the ladies out to the side. Men bring your left hand back up near your left shoulder. Turn the ladies clockwise. Face. Return. Step back.

Move 4 = Handcuffed Swizzle = Beats 1, 2, 3 & 4 as per a normal Armjive. Men raise your left hand to turn the ladies as normal – but keep hold with your right hand at waist level. As the ladies come round to face (the lady’s left arm is in a half nelson behind her back) – men throw & let go with the lady’s right hand (man’s left hand) down to the right of the man’s extended right arm – men immediately use your left hand to catch the lady’s right hand underneath the man’s extended right arm (you should now have crossed arms). Men step forwards to nearly swap sides, turning to your right to face, as you gently pull with both hands low at waist level to make your lady step forwards turning to her left to nearly face – the man’s arms should now be uncrossed, with the lady’s right arm now in a half nelson behind her back. Men raise your right hand out in front of your lady and then over her head to make her step forwards swapping sides turning clockwise, as the man steps to the right back onto the side he started from. Face with a normal double handhold. Men let go with your right as you return your lady anti-clockwise. Step back.
